Meet Ashley.
To be honest, I decided to become a therapist after having some negative experiences in therapy as a young person. Early on in life I learned the importance of validation, acceptance without judgment, and just plain being seen and heard without conditions. I later decided to specialize in art therapy after considering art school for college, having turned to making art as a coping skill during my teen years. I think the choice I made lets me experience the best of both worlds - helping others and bringing creativity into the world which are two of my top values.
Since graduating with my Master’s degree in 2015, I have worked in multiple levels of care (involuntary inpatient, PHP, IOP, group practice, and private practice) with a broad range of clients (child to elder). Historically my work has focused on the treatment of various mental health disorders, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder, borderline personality disorder, suicidal ideation, and working with those who have experienced domestic violence, abuse, and neglect.
Currently, I specialize in PTSD, chronic stress, generalized anxiety disorder, major depressive disorder, and shame (and it’s cousins perfectionism and people-pleasing), particularly with women and gender nonconforming folks, which is the work I would love to continue focusing on.
The thing I enjoy most about this work is being able to authentically connect with others, help them acknowledge that their experiences and symptoms do not mean they are irreparably broken, and that it is possible to break free from experiences we thought would control our lives forever.
When not working, I can often be found hanging out with my rescue animals (2 dogs & 3 cats), working in the garden, reading & making art.
